Invisalign: What One-week of Not Wearing It Can Do?
Invisalign: What One-week of Not Wearing It Can Do?

The flexibility and convenience that comes with Invisalign are so great. For the most part, patients enjoy the liberty of taking out their aligners for a short duration: when they need to brush and floss their teeth, eat, and rarely for special occasions. For greater efficacy, you need to comply with the regulations of wearing your aligners and dental hygiene. People who do not comply with putting on their trays for the recommended 20 to 22 hours each day will experience a treatment outcome that will be less effective. It's noteworthy to mention that a few hours of not wearing your trays may not have a significant impact on the desired outcome, but skipping the use of your aligners for a week can be more cause more problems. There are categories of Invisalign for different patients. For instance, the Invisalign Teen is for teenagers who want to correct their bite. It is one of the patient-friendly treatments. But the rule is the same. If you fail to wear your aligners according to orthodontist prescription, you'll find it challenging to wear them again as they may no longer fit or feel comfortable.

The recommendation has always been that Invisalign patients wear their aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day to correct their smile. This implies that you must consciously make an effort to adhere to this rule so that your result will be great.

Are you not wearing your trays?

There is sometimes that temptation for patients to want to take a break from wearing their aligners - sometimes leave their trays out longer than the recommended time believing it won't have any negative consequences. Sadly, when you don't dedicate time to wear your aligners, your teeth may suffer a relapse (move back to its former crooked state). Since patients have different anatomy, the level to which the teeth can move will be different from person to person. Fortunately, even if you have lost some aligner wearing time, there are ways to restore those lost time and get the smile you desire.

Here's how to wear your trays again after a long time of not doing so

Having missed a week of not using your aligners, you won't expect reinserting them again to be easy. Bear in mind that the trays are customised to fit over the teeth snugly. Do not try to force the aligner onto your teeth. For starters. Should it fit in easily and without any friction, you can pop them into position. This method is a trial and error method and requires patience. However, if after 2 or 3 attempts and the aligners are not fitting over your teeth. Please CALL us so we can advise the best course of action.

Give the previous aligners a try

The first option we will give is to, try wearing your old aligners. In many cases, the previous tray can be more fitting, permitting the orthodontic process to start all over again. The entire process may take some weeks since the teeth are realigned.

Speak to your dentist

In the interim, you should book an appointment with your Invisalign provider to be sure your treatment is going on as planned, and there is no need for any adjustments in the middle of treatment. This will slow down your progress of treatment. Most importantly, when you don't use your aligners for one week, you can have a month's setback.

The best thing to do is to always keep to the rules of wearing your aligners so you can have a better smile and teeth within the specified time-frame. This means you should wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day.

While Invisalign may prove to be very effective, you must follow the rules for the best outcome.
