TMJ disorder (also called TMD) refers to problems with the temporomandibular joint, the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull. When this joint or the surrounding muscles don't function properly, you experience pain, clicking, limited movement, and related symptoms like headaches and ear pain. TMJ disorder typically presents with a combination of jaw pain, clicking or popping when opening and closing, headaches on waking, difficulty chewing, and ear pain without an ear infection.
