Root Canal Cost by Tooth Type

Price depends on which tooth needs treatment and its complexity.

All prices shown include full diagnosis, X-rays, local anaesthetic, canal cleaning and permanent seal. Same-day emergency available.

Front tooth (Incisor/Canine)

From £695 (Member price: from £347.50). Single canal, typically straightforward and may be completed in one visit.

Premolar

From £795 (Member price: from £397.50). Usually 1-2 canals, slightly more complex but still commonly single-visit.

Molar (multi-canal)

From £895 (Member price: from £447.50). 3-4 canals and complex anatomy — may require two or more visits.

Re-Root Canal Treatment

From £1,200 (Member price: from £600). When a previous root canal fails, retreatment removes old filling material.

What Are Root Canal?

Root canal treatment (also called endodontic therapy) saves a tooth that has become infected or badly decayed. It removes the infected nerve tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and disinfects the canals, then seals them to prevent reinfection.

Inside every tooth is soft tissue called the pulp, containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When this pulp becomes infected (from deep decay, cracks, or trauma), it causes severe pain and can lead to abscess if untreated.

Contrary to its reputation, modern root canal treatment is comfortable and often completed in a single visit. With proper anaesthesia, most patients say it's no worse than having a filling. The treatment actually relieves the severe pain caused by infection.

Root canal treatment can be very successful and may allow you to keep your natural tooth for many years, provided the tooth and surrounding tissues are suitable and well cared for.

How it works

Your treatment journey, step by step.

1

Diagnosis & X-rays

We take a history, examine the tooth and take X-rays where clinically appropriate to assess the infection, identify the canals and plan your treatment.

2

Local Anaesthetic

The tooth and surrounding area are thoroughly numbed. You may feel some pressure but should not feel pain. If you do feel discomfort at any point, we can give more anaesthetic.

3

Access & Cleaning

A small opening is made in the crown. The infected pulp is removed and canals are meticulously cleaned and shaped.

4

Filling & Sealing

Canals are filled with biocompatible material and sealed. A temporary or permanent filling protects the tooth.

5

Crown (Recommended)

A crown restores full strength and protects the treated tooth. Usually fitted 2 weeks later.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about adult braces in London.

Root canal treatment at our clinic starts from £695 for a front tooth (£347.50 for members). Premolars from £795 and molars from £895. A crown afterwards is usually required and quoted separately.

With modern anaesthesia the procedure itself is generally well tolerated — most patients say it feels like having a large filling. Mild tenderness for a few days afterwards is normal and settles quickly.

When done to a high standard and properly restored with a crown, a root-canal-treated tooth can last 15–20+ years. Success rates drop if the final crown is delayed or the tooth is heavily fractured.

Sometimes — early cavities can be treated with fillings before they reach the nerve. Once the pulp is infected or dying, the realistic options are root canal treatment or extraction; there's no other way to save the tooth.

Aftercare & recovery

After root canal treatment

  • Mild tenderness for 2–4 days is normal — paracetamol and ibuprofen manage it well
  • Avoid chewing on the treated side until the permanent crown is fitted
  • If a temporary filling is in place, avoid sticky or very hard foods
  • Book the permanent crown promptly — delay risks fracture
  • Contact us urgently if pain worsens or swelling develops
  • Maintain excellent hygiene to protect the tooth long-term
