Loose Crown or Crown Fallen Off
A dental crown that moves when biting or has detached — the underlying tooth is vulnerable until reviewed.
Overview
Crowns typically last many years, but they can loosen or detach due to wear of the underlying cement, decay around the margin, trauma, or heavy grinding. A loose crown is not always painful, but it leaves the underlying tooth vulnerable and should be reviewed promptly.
If your crown has completely come off, keep it safe — in many cases the same crown can be re-cemented if the underlying tooth is sound. If decay has developed underneath, a new crown or other restoration may be needed.
We prioritise loose-crown appointments. Same-day re-cementation is often possible; where rebuilding is required, we explain options clearly with written costs before proceeding.

What you can do at home
Practical pointers — not a replacement for clinical assessment.

- Avoid chewing on the affected side
- Do not attempt to glue the crown back yourself
- Use sensitive toothpaste if the tooth feels sensitive
